京都大学東南アジア地域研究研究所（CSEAS）は、ダイキン工業（DAIKIN）をパートナーとする産学連携共同研究を2021年4月から始めました。
科学と技術、およびそれに伴う学知を社会と結びつける。21世紀の世界に暮らす我々がより良き社会を創造するには、既存の枠組みを超えた専門家同士の協力や、市民との協働をこれまで以上に柔軟に、多様な形で推進することが望まれています。産学連携というと、工学や経済の分野での大学と企業の協働がまず思い浮かびます。文理融合を特徴とする地域研究の領域では、従来、企業との協働は盛んでありませんでした。
CSEAS×DAIKINの共同研究は、これまで触れあうことのなかった者同士が、新しい社会貢献と知の創造を模索し、推し進める絶好のチャンスです。それは、社会が大学や企業に対して抱く期待、つまり未来への望ましい変革の方向を示し、具体的な動きを生み出すことに対する応答です。
地域研究と、空調技術とビジネスが協働することで、何を生み出すことができるのか。CSEASは、東南アジア地域に関する自然環境、社会、経済、政治、文化、歴史などに関する総合的研究において50年以上の蓄積を誇ります。その研究の特徴のひとつは、東南アジアの各地のフィールドに出て、現場を見て、そこから問題を起ち上げたり、既存の議論を再検討したりする現場主義にあります。他方で、DAIKINは、確かな技術に裏付けされた最先端の性能をもつ空調エアコンを中心とした様々な工業製品の開発・販売という領域で、世界有数の実績を有する日本企業です。
CSEAS×DAIKIN共同研究の焦点は、空調です。ただ、ここで言う空調とは、空気を冷却する技術や機械だけではありません。快適で心地よく感じ、健康を支えるような空気と共にある人間の生活を広く意味します。そして、そのような空調を中心に世界をみると、複数の問題群がエコロジカルなシステムとしてつながっている様子が浮かびあがってきます。気候変動・温暖化、エネルギー政策・電力供給、環境破壊・都市の拡張、貧困問題、そしてそれらに関する政策決定を左右する政治イデオロギーや経済。さらには、伝統文化や、望ましい生活スタイルに関連した人々のアイデンティティーなど。
CSEAS×DAIKIN共同研究から、高い社会的意義とユニークな学術的貢献を併せ持った、独自の成果が生まれることを期待します。
Kyoto University’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) has been collaborating with DAIKIN Industries in an industry-academia joint research program since April 2021.
Given the global challenges of the 21st century, we must promote cooperation among experts beyond existing frameworks and collaboration with ordinary citizens in more flexible and diverse ways than ever before.
When we think of industry-academia collaboration, we often first think of universities and companies working together in the fields of engineering and economics. Area Studies, which is inherently interdisciplinary across the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences, has not actively collaborated with the industry sector in the past.
The CSEAS x DAIKIN program is an excellent opportunity for those who have never been in contact with each other to exchange knowledge, perspectives, and methodologies—to stimulate a synergy toward creating meaningful social contributions.
What can the Southeast Asian Area Studies of CSEAS and the technology and business expertise of DAIKIN produce when we work together? CSEAS has more than 50 years of experience in comprehensive interdisciplinary research on Southeast Asia's natural environment, society, economy, politics, culture, and history. Its researchers take a field-oriented approach, observing the situation on the ground and reexamining existing debates. DAIKIN is one of the world’s leading companies in developing industrial products, particularly air-conditioning systems, which offer cutting-edge performance backed by solid technology.
The focus of the CSEAS x DAIKIN joint research is air conditioning. However, air conditioning here refers not only to air-cooling technology and machines, but rather to human life with air that is comfortable, pleasant, and supports good health. With this definition, we can see how multiple issues are connected: Climate change and global warming; energy and electricity supply; environmental destruction and urban expansion; poverty and income disparity; traditional cultures, identities, and preferred lifestyles; and the political ideologies and economies that influence policy decisions around these issues.
We expect that the CSEAS x DAIKIN joint research will combine fresh academic insights with high social significance to produce unique results for a better society.
Sejak April 2021, Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) Kyoto University menjalin kolaborasi dengan DAIKIN Industries melalui program penelitian bersama industri-akademisi.
Menghadapi tantangan global abad ke-21, kita perlu memperkuat kerja sama antar ahli lintas disiplin serta melibatkan masyarakat dengan cara yang lebih fleksibel dan beragam. Selama ini, kolaborasi industri-akademisi sering dikaitkan dengan bidang teknik atau ekonomi. Padahal, Studi Wilayah (Area Studies)—sebuah bidang studi yang menggabungkan ilmu alam, humaniora, dan ilmu sosial —sebenarnya memiliki potensi besar untuk bersinergi dengan sektor industri, meski belum banyak ditelusuri sebelumnya.
Program CSEAS x DAIKIN ini menjadi wadah pertukaran pengetahuan, perspektif, dan metodologi antara dua pihak yang sebelumnya belum pernah terhubung. Sinergi ini diharapkan melahirkan kontribusi sosial yang bermakna.
Apa yang dapat dihasilkan dari kerja sama antara keahlian Studi Wilayah Asia Tenggara milik CSEAS dan keahlian bisnis milik DAIKIN? CSEAS memiliki pengalaman lebih dari 50 tahun dalam penelitian interdisipliner yang komprehensif, mengaitkan lingkungan alam, masyarakat, ekonomi, politik, budaya, dan sejarah di Asia Tenggara. Peneliti CSEAS mengandalkan pendekatan lapangan untuk mengkaji kondisi aktual dan meninjau ulang wacana yang ada. Di lain pihak, DAIKIN, sebagai perusahaan industri terkemuka dunia, menguasai teknologi canggih dalam pengembangan produk terutama sistem pendingin udara.
Fokus penelitian bersama CSEAS x DAIKIN adalah pengondisian udara (air conditioning, AC). Namun, konsep AC di sini tidak sekadar tentang teknologi pendingin ruangan, melainkan juga upaya menciptakan kehidupan sehari-hari dengan kualitas udara yang nyaman, sehat, dan mendukung kesejahteraan kita semua. Melalui pandangan ini, terlihat koneksi antar beragam isu krusial: krisis perubahan iklim, masalah pasokan energi, kerusakan lingkungan, kesenjangan ekonomi, keberlangsungan budaya tradisional, hingga kebijakan politik yang memengaruhi gaya hidup masyarakat.
Melalui kolaborasi ini, CSEAS dan DAIKIN berharap dapat menggabungkan wawasan akademis inovatif dengan dampak sosial yang nyata, menghasilkan solusi unik bagi masyarakat yang lebih baik.
